LOGANSPORT, Ind. – Student organizations at Ivy Tech Community College’s Logansport Campus are sponsoring a rummage sale to raise funds to support the construction of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Kokomo.

The rummage sale is set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 4, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 5, in the Community Room on the Logansport campus at 1 Ivy Tech Way.

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, designed to serve as a symbol of human and civil rights history, will be built at the junction of Apperson Way and Lafountain Street in Kokomo. The memorial will include a granite wall as a backdrop to a statue of Dr. King sculpted from Indiana limestone accentuated by granite benches, entrance planters and a brick walkway. A group of Kokomo leaders are spearheading a $150,000 fund drive for the monument and a fundraising gala is scheduled for April 24 at the Kokomo Event & Conference Center.

Shannon Rivers, a member of the student advising staff at Ivy Tech’s Kokomo Campus, is fundraising chair for the project.

“Ivy Tech Logansport students are excited to support this fundraising effort,” said Suzanne Dillman, associate vice chancellor of Student Affairs for Ivy Tech Logansport Campus. “This is a wonderful project to bring attention to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy of peace, freedom and equality through the construction of a memorial honoring him.”
