Ivy Tech Kokomo Region's 2011 graduating class was its largest-ever.
KOKOMO, Ind. — Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo Region — which includes campuses and instructional sites in Kokomo, Logansport, Peru and Wabash — celebrated the largest graduating class in its history at the college’s 2011 Commencement Ceremony at Memorial Gymnasium in Kokomo on Thursday evening. The college conferred more than 900 degrees and certificates to 806 graduates, 32 percent more than last year.
Dr. Pamela J. Lewis, vice chancellor of academic affairs for Ivy Tech’s Kokomo Region, is proud of the 2011 graduating class.
“This year, we graduated 806 students of all ages and from all backgrounds, each achieving a very important personal academic goal,” says Dr. Lewis. “This achievement represents hard work and sacrifice, not only for the students themselves, but for the family and friends that help and support them. I congratulate each and every one of them on their outstanding accomplishments.”
Statewide, the college also is celebrating its largest graduating class in history as an estimated 12,400 students will receive credentials — an almost 25 percent increase compared to last year’s graduating class of nearly 10,000 and 48 percent higher than the 8,500 graduates in 2009.
“While graduation is the last chapter of our students’ stories, it’s just one of the many ways they can reach their goals,” said Ivy Tech President Thomas J. Snyder. “Some of our graduates will be joining the workforce immediately and will have a tremendous impact on nearly every industry in the state, while others will be continuing their education at a four-year college or university. They are the men and women who will shape our state’s future. Together, they are making Indiana great.”
