Professor brings to classroom more than 17 years in business and social services
LOGANSPORT, Ind. – Ivy Tech Community College has named Misty Resendez to serve as a full-time assistant professor for business administration at the College’s Logansport campus.
Funding for the new position was approved by Ivy Tech’s State Board of Trustees in 2015 as part of its efforts to increase the number of full-time faculty members and meet the needs of a growing number of business administration students on the Logansport Campus.
“As we look to increase enrollment throughout the region, hiring Dr. Resendez at the Logansport Campus for the full-time Business Administration faculty position is critically important,” said Kevin Bostic, president of Ivy Tech’s Logansport Campus. “She brings a wealth of experience to one of our best programs here. Our students here and throughout the region will certainly benefit from her track record of excellent teaching. ”
Resendez comes to Ivy Tech with more than 17 years of experience working in business and social services, most recently as manager of satellite offices and offsite programs for Fairbanks Hospital of Indianapolis since 2007. Professionally, she has served as a manager and consultant to several organizations providing services such as training development, organizational needs and assessment, program evaluation including design and implementation, and business operations. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana University Fort Wayne and a master’s degree in Management and a doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership from Indiana Wesleyan University.
Her research interests are in the areas of cultural diversity and inclusion and organizational culture. Her empirical studies on these topics have allowed her to present her findings at the Tobias Leadership Conference, International Leadership Conference and Women’s Affinity Group Leadership Conference.
Resendez currently serves as the vice president for programs for the Indianapolis chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). She is also a board member for the Diversity Roundtable of Central Indiana. Her involvement in these organizations underscores her passion for equal educational opportunities for all students. Fluent in the Spanish language, she is particularly interested in engaging members of the Latino community.
“My goal is to equip students to be successful in the business world and communities by developing their skills in leadership, communication and working with other people,” Resendez said. “I am looking forward to developing opportunities for students to serve the community and engage in practical interaction with the business community on a regional, national and global scale.”
The principles taught through Business Administration at Ivy Tech are threaded in all industries including nonprofits and education. Students create marketing plans and budgets, building personal websites, simulations, and case studies, and creating community connection. The Business Administration program also partners with many local businesses to give students the experience and exposure in the business world that they will need to be successful.
The program offers a variety of Associate of Applied Science degrees and Associate of Science transfer degrees, as well as certificates and technical certificates, with a concentration in Human Resource Management. Graduates of the Business Administration program can enter directly into the workforce in competitive-paying careers or they may transfer to four-year partners of Ivy Tech, including such universities as Purdue, Indiana State, Trine, and the regional campuses of Indiana University.
Graduates of the Business Administration program are able to work in a wide variety of positions in a wide variety of industries, including human resources, marketing, accounting, and sales as supervisors, team leads and consultants.
