Ivy Tech graduate returns as member of nursing faculty

LOGANSPORT, Ind. – Jill Stewart-Walley, who began her higher education journey as a student in Ivy Tech Community College’s licensed practical nursing program in Logansport in 2005, is returning to the Logansport campus as a nursing instructor.

Stewart-Walley joins the school after 5½ years as a nurse at Logansport Memorial Hospital where she served as scheduling coordinator, bereavement care coordinator and provider of labor and delivery, postpartum and newborn care.

Named a member of Ivy Tech’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society chapter throughout her career at the community college, Stewart-Walley earned her technical certificate in practical nursing, graduating summa cum laude in 2008.  She earned her Associate of Science degree in nursing, graduating magna cum laude in 2009.  In 2012, she received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University.

“I am extremely pleased to have Jill as part of the nursing faculty,” said Marian Henry, dean of the School of Nursing for Ivy Tech’s Kokomo Region. “As a student, Jill was a leader among her peers.  She excelled academically and was involved in numerous community activities.  In recognition of her accomplishments and contributions, she was the recipient of the 2009 Chancellor’s Award, the highest student honor in the Kokomo Region.  Jill will be an asset to the college and our nursing students.”

Stewart-Walley is licensed as a registered nurse in Indiana and has been certified in the American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support for Healthcare Providers program and as a Neonatal Resuscitation Program provider.  She has extensive experience and training in cardiovascular resuscitation techniques, heart monitoring, risk reduction for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and advanced bereavement counseling.

Now a resident of Logansport, Stewart-Walley previously worked as a licensed local pastor at the Burton and Richland Center United Methodist Churches in Rochester and was a customer service provider in the escrow department of First Federal Savings Bank in Rochester from 2001 to 2008.
