LOGANSPORT, Ind.—Rebecca Groff, a well-respected mathematics teacher in north central Indiana, will bring her teaching skills to postsecondary education as a new instructor at the Logansport campus of Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo Region.
Groff was most recently at Pioneer Junior-Senior High School in Royal Center, Ind., where she instructed students in algebra, geometry and pre-calculus, including a dual-credit pre-calculus class through Ivy Tech. While at Pioneer, she served as academic teams coach, including as math coach for Superbowl and Midwest Conference competitions, as well as coach of the varsity boys and girls swim team. Before joining Royal Center in 2004, she taught mathematics at Lincoln Middle School and All Saints Middle School, as well as Logansport High School where she served as mathematics department chair and also coached academic competition teams as well as varsity swimming and track.
A graduate of Indiana University Bloomington, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education, Groff has continued her education with a variety of post-graduate work. She earned a Master of Arts in Mathematics Education from Western Governors University in 2011.
Her professional memberships include National Council for Teachers of Mathematics, Pioneer Teachers Association, Indiana State Teachers Association, National Education Association and the Indiana Association of High School Swim Coaches. She has served as president of the Boone Township Advisory Board; in leadership positions with the Pioneer Teachers Association; and as a member of the Royal Center Library Board, and is past president of Tri Kappa Sorority and past treasurer of Pioneer Athletic Boosters, Pioneer Band Boosters and Pioneer Youth Baseball League. She volunteers for the Emmaus Mission Benevolence Center and Salvation Army food pantry and kitchen.
