KOKOMO, Ind. — In 1963 two thousand people marched on Washington in support of civil rights, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his I Have a Dream speech, Kodak introduced the Instamatic camera, the legendary Beatles released the single, I Want to Hold Your Hand, and Indiana Vocational Technical College was established.
Indiana Vocational Technical College (1963-95), Ivy Tech State College (1995-2005), and now Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana continues to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a variety of activities across the state, including an event in Kokomo next Friday evening.
To celebrate 50 years and the lives that have been changed through education, Ivy Tech Foundation is hosting a Celebration for Student Success, Friday, April 19 at the Kokomo Event and Conference Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the event begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $30 and available online at http://ivytech.edu/kokomo/50thcelebration.html.
“Whether you simply want to show your support for education or just love Beatles music, purchasing a ticket to this event is an investment in the future of our community,” said Kelly Karickhoff, executive director of Ivy Tech Foundation in the Kokomo Region. “Ivy Tech graduates get good jobs, buy homes, pay taxes and spend money in the communities they live and work. They also give of their time and treasure back to the communities that helped them in reaching their goal of earning a college education.”
“We are really excited to be bringing The Beatles Remix, a Beatles tribute band, with legendary music of the early 60s to this year’s event to truly create an atmosphere of celebration! We’re going to party like it is 1963!”
Proceeds from ticket sales and live and silent auction items benefit students who attend Ivy Tech’s Kokomo campus.
