Ivy Tech’s Logansport campus preparing for third annual scholarship fundraiser

LOGANSPORT, Ind. — Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo Region’s Logansport campus is hosting its third annual scholarship fundraiser on Feb. 11 at the Logansport campus located at 1 Ivy Tech Way. The For the Love of Education Valentine’s Ball will feature dinner, dancing, an art show, and silent and live auctions. The black tie event starts at 6:00 p.m. Tuxedo Junction, a local jazz and swing band, will provide the entertainment.

“One of the differences is going to be the fact that we’re having dancing this year. We received some feedback from the community and they really thought that instead of watching entertainment, it would be better to have the opportunity to dance and interact more with one another,” said Suzanne Dillman, Logansport campus vice chancellor of student affairs.

Money raised from the event goes toward scholarships for students who live in Cass, Fulton and Pulaski counties. The event has sold out in previous years since it began in 2010. 220 tickets are available this year and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Last year’s event raised nearly $13,000 and nearly $7,000 in 2010. This year will once again feature an art show where local artists display their creations in a hallway outside of the event.

“Artists will donate 20 percent of anything they sell that night to the Ivy Tech Foundation. Last year we sold about 10 pieces of artwork,” said Kevin Bostic, Logansport campus vice chancellor and dean.

This year’s For the Love of Education Valentine’s Ball will once again have live and silent auctions, but organizers are looking to incorporate more experience-based items this year such as a night at the Columbia Club in downtown Indianapolis and dinner for up to six people prepared by local firefighters at the Logansport Central Fire Station, items which have already been donated. Organizers are still looking for auction donations.

Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased at the Logansport campus or charge by phone at 574-753-5101 using a credit card. Tickets will be mailed using the charge-by-phone option. More information about the event can be found by going to http://www.ivytech.edu/kokomo/valentinesball.html
