Ivy Tech to host FREE résumé writing, job search workshop

TIPTON, Ind. — Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo Region will host a free résumé writing and job search workshop at its Tipton Outreach Site located at 1200 South Main Street in Tipton on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011 from 6-8:00 p.m.

Ivy Tech Kokomo Region’s Assistant Director of Career Services Jennifer Nichols will facilitate the workshop. Nichols will talk about topics including writing a powerful résumé tailored to a specific job, incorporating key words to highlight your strengths, avoiding pitfalls of the face-to-face interview, effective interview strategies and effective job searches.

The workshop is open to high school-aged students and up. Ivy Tech Tipton Outreach Site Coordinator Cara Kellerman says anyone that is interested in learning more about résumé building and job seeking is welcome to attend.

“Searching for a new job can be intimidating and overwhelming.  We’re going to go over how to effectively search for a job and the many resources available to help candidates in their search.  We will then show candidates how to tailor the résumé to the job they are applying for and so on,” said Kellerman.

Attendees can leave the workshop with examples of effective résumés and handouts to help guide them in the search for their next job. People interested in signing up do not have to be an Ivy Tech student, nor do they have to live in the Tipton area.

People who attend are asked to bring a pen and a notepad to take notes. The workshop is free. Registration is limited to 30 people on a first come basis. Reservations can be made by calling (765) 675-1177 ext. 27, or ckellerman@ivytech.edu
